CAHS 100 Introduction to Hospitality (3)

A comprehensive examination of the hospitality industry, including hotels, restaurants, clubs, and the travel and tourism sectors. Emphasis on organizational structures, departments, job classifications, and career paths within each sector. Lecture and discussions are enhanced by industry guest speakers.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Define hospitality as a field and philosophy, summarizing the evolution of the industry, its history, cross-cultural dimensions and interface with tourism.
- Outcome 2: Enumerate the multiple career paths possible in the hospitality field by classifying the organization, structure and functional areas of the various sectors of hospitality.
- Outcome 3: Identify categories of beverages, their history and importance to the industry, and differentiate between production methods.
- Outcome 4: Identify components of excellent customer service and apply hospitality industry standards of ethics and professional conduct.
