Using the traditional materials and techniques of Chinese calligraphy and painting, students will learn about the design and philosophy of flower paintings through demonstrations, lectures and video. Based on a series of Chinese masterpieces, students will develop compositional, technical and creative skills.
After successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Outcome 1: Employ effectively the basic materials, tools, skills, methods and processes of Chinese brush painting.
- Outcome 2: Identify the two classic elements of Chinese art: painting and calligraphy.
- Outcome 3: Create competent paintings in the basic genres of representational flower painting.
- Outcome 4: Explore the 26 basic strokes of Chinese calligraphy.
