She will be transferring to UC Santa Cruz this fall to continue her studies - congratulations, Katie!

2. Theatre Department Production: Dead Man's Cell Phone - Starting July 7

The Theatre Department of City College of San Francisco presents Sarah Ruhlís beguiling comedy Dead Manís Cell Phone. The play is directed by John Wilk and will be performed at City Collegeís Diego Rivera Theatre.

Phones have become an integral part of modern society and we live in an age with these seemingly magical devices that promise constant connection yet leave many of us feeling stranded.

3. Celebration of life for EEOC Monitor and CCSF Instructor Horace V. Alexander - August 5

Those of you who knew Horace ďAlexĒ Alexander (May 17, 1924 - February 22, 2016) recall his warm, welcoming eyes, easy smile and empathetic, listening ear, which empowered him as an Engineering Instructor, mentor, proud union member and Equal Employment Opportunity monitor.

Resonating with his long CCSF service and perhaps lesser known, he devotedly used dialogue and empathy as a community mediator into his late 80ís, and had a long history of activism for peace with justice.

The son of Texas sharecroppers, in the 50ís he became a tireless leader for civil and human rights, organizing nationally with forward thinking luminaries of the time. Come celebrate the life of a man who cut societyís cold steel with a blade of stronger metal, guided by his ideals.
