1. “The Great California Shake Out” - Important Earthquake Safety Information

October is recognized as earthquake preparedness month. October 20th is designated as “The Great California Shake Out”. Throughout the state, individuals, schools, hospitals and companies are asked to participate in this important event.

For faculty at CCSF we are asking you to take a minute at 10 a.m., or any time throughout the day and remind your students of earthquake protocols:
  • DROP, COVER and HOLD ON until the shaking stops.
  • Avoid windows (face away from glass), tall furniture and overhead hazards.
  • If possible, take cover under a desk or a sturdy table or seek refuge along an interior wall and cover your head.
  • Do not immediately evacuate. Wait for the shaking to stop and check for hazards before exiting.
  • Evacuate when possible to a safe area away from buildings and falling debris.
  • Follow instructions of staff and Public Safety Officers.
For supervisors/staff we are asking that you review the above noted information, to become familiar with or refresh your familiarity with CCSF earthquake procedures.

Personal safety while at CCSF is very important to campus administration. Thank you for your attention to this to this important matter.

4. Domestic Violence Awareness Month - Upcoming Project SURVIVE Events

Project SURVIVE, the Sexual Health Education and Sexual Violence Prevention program of City College of San Francisco’s Women’s Studies Department, is sponsoring multiple events to commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October 2016. Our aim is to raise awareness of this pervasive problem: on average, 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner in the U.S. (NISVS data). Although anyone can be a victim of domestic violence, women are disproportionately affected. One in four women is the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner at some point in their lifetime (NISVS data).

Please see the attached flyers for upcoming events.
