It is with great sadness that the Library and Learning Resources Department announces the passing of our esteemed colleague, James Lim.  James left us on Thursday, March 19th, after suffering a massive stroke.

After many years with the San Francisco Public Library, James joined City College in 1996 upon the opening of the new Rosenberg LLRC.  James provided help and instruction to innumerable students in many ways – in person, in online classes and through his well-designed instructional materials.  James was a kind and generous colleague blessed with a wry and gentle sense of humor.  Absolutely nothing would ever ruffle his feathers.  His warmth, accessibility and joy in teaching were the hallmarks of his librarianship.

James had many wide-ranging interests beyond those of library services and instruction.  He played the violin, often accompanying library colleague Bonnie Gratch on cello.  He was an abstract expressionist painter, a runner and bicyclist, and a member of a Lake Merced rowing club.  He had become enamored of all things Japanese and, upon retirement in June, was looking forward to a trip to Korea.

James’ passing is a huge loss to all of us, both personally and professionally.

He is survived by his wife Theresa Yau and his son Aaron.

Funeral Service: Saturday, March 28th at 1:00 Ashley & Mc Mullen Funeral Home, 4200 Geary Blvd (@ 6th Ave).

A memorial is being planned for a later date.
