Christine Canepa's work employs imagery from the animal world as a means of exploring ideas proposed in contemporary physics regarding the existence of multiple dimensions, or a “multiverse”. Canepa uses imagery of dens, nests, and burrows, and various endangered species to explore ideas around endings, loss, and the speculative potential of parallel worlds. The work plays with traditional distinctions between abstract and representational imagery, and historic conventions of landscape painting.
Benjamin Lyon, alumni of the art program at City College of San Francisco, is a Brooklyn-based artist creating work from a variety of materials derived from a natural and manufactured world. Through sculpture, painting, and drawing Lyon expresses a continual search for meaning within themes of time, change, materials and labor; thus, making visual discoveries through a process-heavy, ritualistic, hand-made focused approach. Within the dichotomies of culture and nature, and another of science and the occult, Lyon's processes aim to reinterpret and raise questions as to whether their treatments as separate entities, with preference of one over the other, reveal paradoxes worthy of re-evaluation.
