7. Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) Programs and Title IV Federal Student Aid for Students with Intellectual Disabilities -- MONDAY, MAY 5th


1. Need Flex Credits? Do you need a few more flex credits? The Basic Skills Committee, a college-wide shared governance committee, will be sponsoring one of the last flex credit professional development opportunities for this fiscal year: Improving Students' Reading Comprehension through Text Structure Awareness, a practical, interactive workshop with English instructor Cindy Slates on Wednesday, May 7 from 2:00-4:00 PM in Batmale 511. Snacks will be provided.


2. Graduation Regalia (a correction): The previous CityNotes message about ordering regalia for graduation only mentioned faculty. Please note -- Administrators and Classified are welcome to attend and wear the ceremonial regalia. Student too of course! See the attached Faculty Regalia Orders.pdf but know it applies to everyone.


3. Summer Youth Jobs Volunteers: On Saturday May 10th at Pier 35, the Mayor will be hosting a Youth Resource Fair for young people to practice their interviewing skills, get their resume critiqued, attend job readiness workshops and register online at the computer bank for available summer positions.  Volunteers are needed to help make this day a success for the estimated 800 youth who will attend.  Volunteers can help with resume review, serving as greeters, assisting with registration or just providing general support for the event.  Volunteers are asked to commit to a 4 hour shift starting at either 9:15 am or 12 Noon.

4. Accessible Computer Lab Open House: Come to The Accessible Computer Laboratory (ACL) Open House on Wednesday May 7th  from 9:40am to 2:30pm. We are located on the second floor of Batmale Hall Room 231. Come and  try our computer technology that is helpful for students when writing and reading assignments.
•             Proof-read papers out loud by computer
•             Speak  your written assignments instead of hand-typing them

5. CCSF Forum Literary Magazine Presents: Please come to Forum's next event and promote it widely with your students. We have three amazing writers coming to our school. The flyer for this eventis attached with a lot more information and the speaker's bios: writing panel flyer.pdf. The panel is May 14 from 6-8pm in VA 115.
​6. "Spring Sing" event: On Wednesdays, May 14th and 21st, The CCSF Choral students will be singing for your pleasure at Caffe D'Meliano -- 1314 Ocean Ave. at 7:30 PM. Rock, Opera, Broadway, Pop, Sacred and other styles. See the attached flier Choral Performance.pdf for your personal invitation!


7. Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) Programs and Title IV Federal Student Aid for Students with Intellectual Disabilities: The UCLA Tarjan Center is pleased to announce the webinar on Comprehensive Transition and Postsecondary (CTP) Programs and Title IV Federal Student Aid for Students with Intellectual Disabilities will be held on Monday, May 5th from 10:00am-11:30am pacific standard time (PST). We will be convening a panel of experts from: 1) US Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education and Federal Student Aid; 2) Think College; and 3) 2&4 year colleges in CA that have obtained the CTP designation.  This is a voluntary training opportunity.


Who should attend: California Community Colleges' Administrators, Chief Student Services Officers, Vice Presidents of Student Services, Deans of Financial Aid/Scholarships Deans of Students Services, Directors of Fiscal and Accounting Srvcs., Mgrs. of Financial Aid & Financial Aid Officers, DSP&S Coordinators & Directors.


What you will learn: Participants will learn about student eligibility and program eligibility requirements, including the steps that an institution of higher education must take to have its comprehensive transition and postsecondary program approved by Federal Student Aid (FSA).  Department of Education officials will share helpful hints for institutions as they begin the approval process. Programs already designated as a CTP will share their experiences.
