Program Information

Cardiovascular and EKG Technicians

The program focuses on adult cardiac ultrasound, "Echocardiography".  The CVT program will be 2 academic years.  The echo curriculum includes the following: cardiac anatomy and pathology, ultrasound physics, the 2D/M-Mode/Doppler findings associated with normal and abnormal cardiac pathology and stress echo. The CVT class content includes: Advanced ECG interpretation, cardiac pharmacology, and pacemaker technology.  Students will obtain cardiac instrumentation and ultrasound scanning skills in the CVT labs and the assigned clinical internships.

Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic Program

The EMT certification eligibility program trains students in various areas of specialized emergency problems and advanced first aid including initial patient assessment, respiratory emergency care, medical trauma, CPR, basic life support, and much more. The EMT  and EMT-Refresher programs offer the required didactic, skills and clinical experiences necessary for the performance of all aspects of basic life support and pre-hospital care. Graduates of the program are eligible to become certified Emergency Medical Technicians in California. The EMT is a prerequisite for entry into any paramedic program. The EMT Refresher is for students seeking EMT re-certification. The Paramedic program continues the education of the EMT to the advanced level in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) care. This 18-month program prepares the student with the cognitive, psychomotor and affective competencies to function as an entry level paramedic and to take the National Registry Advanced level psychomotor and cognitive examinations. The program also reviews the process for state licensure.

Health Information Technology

This multi-faceted certificate program provides students with the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to process, analyze, disseminate, organize and manage health care records in medical office settings. Specializations include Accredited Records Technician, Health Information Clerks, HIT Coding Specialist, and Medical Transcription. Health Information professionals are responsible for maintaining components of health information systems consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements of a health care delivery system. Successful graduates are eligible for national accreditation as an Accredited Record Technician (ART).

Medical Assisting

The Medical Assisting program trains students to perform administrative and clinical procedures in physicians' offices, outpatient clinics, medical laboratories, and home care agencies. Students can earn an Award of Achievement in Medical Assisting or Medical Administrative Assisting, or a Certificate of Completion in Medical Assisting or as a Medical Biller.

Pharmacy Technician

The Pharmacy Technician Program is a 2-semester credit program which will prepare the graduate for a career in retail, homecare, or hospital-based pharmacy. A technician assists the pharmacist in the purchasing, preparation, and dispensing of prescribed medications. Applicants to the program must apply at least six months before the fall semester begins. Applicants must demonstrate a proficiency in algebra and complete a successful interview. Graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion and be qualified to sit for the national certification exam.

Chinese Medicine

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is widely recognized for its effectiveness for chronic, systemic illnesses, and has its strength in disease prevention and early identification of illness. Chinese medicine has evolved over thousands of years of observation, study, and clinical experience of the body.

Unit Coordinator

This program is designed to introduce the student to the clerical aspects of the hospital unit coordinator or ward clerk, and to familiarize the student with basic procedures and communication skills. This one-semester non-credit program provides training in the clerical aspects of maintaining patient charts, facilitating hospital admissions, and coordinating communications.
