Green and Sustainable Business Programs

City College offers three Green and Sustainable certificate programs in the areas of Buiness, Small Business and Travel. 

In the business programs students will learn how to increase sustainability within businesses and gain a broad understanding of environmental issues relevant to business and industry. The Small Busines certificate is targeted to small business owners who are seeking green certification, and the Travel certificate addresses green travel and tourism, one of the the fastest growing segments of the travel industry. 

 

Green & Sustainable Business Certificate of Accomplishment

The credit Green and Sustainable Business Certificate of Accomplishment provides students of all business disciplines an essential overview of green business concepts.

Topics include natural capitalism, green finance, green accounting, research and development, green advertising and marketing, LEED facilities and energy cogeneration, transportation and logistics, green IT, social responsibility, manufacturing and types of energy generation

The credit certificate consists of three core courses plus two electives, for a total of 15-16 units. Please see curriculum for certificate information and catalog for course information.

 

Green and Sustainable Small Business Certificate

The noncredit Green and Sustainable Small Business Certificate of Accomplishment is targeted to small business owners who are interested in obtaining green certification or who would like to learn more about the practices and benefits of green business. The growing importance of being an enviromentally friendly small business cannot be overempahsized.

Small business owners will get an overview of the aspects of being green, how to get green certification,  marketing green certification, and the costs and benfits of greening a small business.

This noncredit certificate consists of eight short courses for a total of 72 hours. Please see curriculum for noncredit certificate information and the catalog for course information. All noncredit courses are offered free of charge.

 

Green & Sustainable Travel Certificate of Accomplishment

Students who have completed the Green and Sustainable Travel Certificate of Accomplishment will have a clear advantage when entering the travel or tourism workplace. Green travel and tourism is one of the fastest growing segments of the travel and tourism industry. All companies either have green initiatives in place or are developing them. There is a great need in the industry for emplyees and owners to understand the requirements of green travel.

Credit Green and Sustainable Business Classes are offered in the day and evening at the Ocean Campus.

 

Noncredit Green and Sustainable Business Classes are offered in the evening at the Downtown Campus. Please see the class schedule for current schedule.

How to Enroll

For new students, please see information about becoming a noncredit or credit student. You may also contact the Office of Admissions at (415) 239-3285. Many noncredit classes allow for registration in class; there is no tuition cost for noncredit classes. Please refer to tuition information for specifics on City College credit tuition costs. Financial Aid is available for those who qualify. You may also call the Financial Aid Office at (415) 239-3576.

 

Applying for a Degree or Certificate

When you have completed all the required classes, fill out a petition for a certificate. The petition form is available in Admissions and Records, Conlan Hall, Room 107, and should be submitted at the beginning of the semester that you complete all the requirements.
