 What will I learn in this program?

The Certificate of Achievement in Fire Officer follows the course content of the California Fire Service Training and Education Systems (CFSTES) recommendations.  Each course offered utilizes the training manuals published by their organization, each course is registered with the CFSTES, and the instructors are registered instructors with the CFSTES.  The certificate program is open to persons who are currently employed as firefighters or who want to become firefighters.

A Material fee of $85 is charged for each course - which covers the cost of processing of student exams by State Fire Training and the certificate awarded after successfully achieving 80% on each course exam. There are total of ten courses. State Fire Training keeps a Student data base for all completed courses that leads to the certification as “Fire Officer” after submitting a request to State Fire Training for the certification, with a nominal fee.

CIty College of San Francisco mirrors State Fire Training course requirements. One can apply for this certificate from CCSF at no cost.

*Based on full-time attendance or 12 units per semester

  • Each course is offered over a 5 week baisis, meeting one day per week, classes are normally all day from 8:30 - 4:30pm
  • All State Fire Training courses are offered at SFO Airport Campus, Building 928, taking North Access Road Exit from Highways 101 & 280-380
  • Special note: If an employed firefighter is applying for admission to CCSF - one does not need to go through any testing, if one is taking fewer than nine units or has a degree already
