I NEED TRAINING

STATUS of the Website Training Project:

  • A group of pilot participants has had preliminary training from the vendor.
  • CCSF has developed a training plan through the TLC during the summer.
  • The next training sessions will take place in October and November 2009 and January 2010 for designated Department or campus web creators and for pilots already involved.
  • Trainings are reserved for those designated to create/update department sites and these first-priority areas: Admissions and Records, Board of Trustees/Chancellor's Page, Calendar for Events, Class Schedule, College Catalog, Community Outreach, Current Students/Future Students, Faculty Staff Directory, Financial Aid, Human Resources, International Students, Library, Site Index, Student Services
  • For individual faculty web sites, a timeline will be announced late in the Fall semester, 2009. Your trainings will be held at a later stage in the project. This signup and scheduled trainings through the end of Fall 2009 are only for Departments. Please do not sign up at this point thinking that you can create a site as an individual faculty member.

  • Department representatives, sign up here:

WHAT TO DO BEFORE your training?

  1. Go over your website to optimize content. This means, you'll need to figure out what content you want to keep using, and what you want to discard. Use the EMG Handout and Questionnaire Optimize your Website Content . GET HELP MAKING A TEXT FILE.
  2. GENERAL PILOT DEPTS/CAMPUSES: When you've decided what content to port over, start organizing your material. USE OUR HANDY SITE MAP HELPER.
  3. SPECIAL DEPTS [SEE LIST ABOVE] have been working with EMG to organize their pages. You should make a list of your current pages on the Content Migration Map.
    • First locate where your department or area will be found within the new CCSF web hierarchy.
    • Then list the URLs [http://www.ccsf.edu is the URL of the CCSF main page] of those pages you will keep and incorporate into the new system. This will be a terrific check off list for you as we move forward.
  4. Take a look at some tutorials on the Day Communiqué site .
  5. Remind ourselves how this will look so much better and be so much easier for folks to navigate and search!

TRAINING COMPONENTS

  1. Session I: Optimizing Content and Content Migration, Reviewing old site and Creating a new site map, Logging in. Passwords distributed. If time permits: Overview (Demo) of navigating and editing in the new site.
