Earn an Associate of Arts degree in Communication Studies and develop skills essential for communicating in personal, professional, and public settings.

Why Study Communication?

The Communication Studies Department invites students of all levels to develop their voices, think creatively and critically, respond to cultural diversity, and advocate for a more humane world. Students enrolled in CMST courses...

  • Improve public speaking and presentation skills
  • Enhance problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
  • Develop an understand of the communication process and an awareness of cultural differences
  • Better navigate relationships, conflict, and team dynamics

Surveys by the National Association of Colleges and Employers consistently rank oral and written communication as one of the most sought after skills when hiring employees, along with critical thinking and teamwork (NACE, 2019). It is not surprising that those with effective communication skills are more likely to be hired and promoted in the professional world. Additionally, effective communicators are more likely to develop satisfying interpersonal relationships, resolve conflict, build trust, motivate others, and spark social change.
