What is Medi-Cal?

Medical is health care coverage for qualified persons who live in , who have income within certain established limits.

 

Who can get Medi-Cal?

Persons age 65 or older

Persons under age 21

Certain adults between ages 21-65, if they have minor children living with them

Persons who are blind or have other disabilities

Pregnant women

Persons receiving nursing home care

Persons seeking asylum, such as Cuban/ Haitian immigrants

 

Do I have to be a citizen to get Medi-Cal?

Documented AND undocumented persons may be eligible for Medi-Cal. Some persons may receive pregnancy-related and emergency services only, while others may be eligible for full Medi-Cal benefits.

 

What do I have to do to get Medi-Cal coverage?

Go to www.dhs.ca.gov and download an application

or call 1-800-430-4263 to get an information packet with enrollment forms

Complete & send in the application, including any required documentation

 

How can my family and I qualify for Medi-Cal coverage?

If you are in one of the groups listed in “Who can get Medi-Cal” above:

Medi-Cal will look at your income and expenses to determine your family’s eligibility

Medi-Cal will consider other things you own (assets such as bank accounts, vehicles) to see if you meet the eligibility requirements. (PLEASE NOTE: Not all things you or your family own are counted; your local social services office can give you more information.)

Contact your local social services office for information about medical services in your county.
