Welcome Letter

Elaine Avrus

Welcome to the Learning Assistance Center at City College of San Francisco. We are here to provide academic support so that you may succeed in your academic goals with ease. Our staff emphasize helping students strengthen their self concept, increase their sense of control over their education, set realistic goals, and accept responsibility for their own learning.

Our programs include academic tutoring, an open-access computer lab, and college success courses designed to assist you in your quest to successfully complete your educational goals.

Our LAC staff includes faculty, professional staff and student assistants who take pride in their work and strive to provide top notch academic support services for CCSF students.

Our tutors share their knowledge of their subject. They work to provide an active learning experience for their students by explaining difficult concepts and providing examples for exploration. Tutors encourage, inspire, motivate and enable students to develop confidence in their academic abilities. The goal of tutoring is to enable students to become independent and fearless lifelong learners eager to explore learning and create lives that will inspire others.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide students with academic support services that promote active learning and encourage collaboration among faculty, tutors and students within our diverse community.

Toward this goal, we assist our students in achieving their academic goals through our academic-support services that include: student-centered peer tutoring, college success courses, workshops and peer-collaborative small groups; an open-access computer lab; and a grant-funded writing project.

Thank you. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with your ideas, questions, and concerns.
