Library Cards

Student ID card with barcode listed at bottom

Your current CCSF photo ID card is your library card. The library uses the barcode on the ID card.

Students, faculty and staff may get a card at the Ocean Campus ID office at Smith Hall, Room 118. Other center ID office locations are listed below.

Patrons must have their ID cards with them in the library to borrow materials or use computers.

Never loan a library card or barcode to another person. Each patron is responsible for all materials borrowed or CCSF computer access on her/his barcode.

The barcode on the ID card is also necessary for off-campus access to e-books, streaming video, and articles from library subscription databases listed on the CCSF Library website. After clicking on link for selected database, patron will be prompted to enter the 14 digit barcode in order to access content.

Students must be registered in the current semester for the student ID card to be a valid library card.

Newly registered Noncredit students without a CCSF ID card may be able to get a temporary library card with proof of registration at their center's library.  Please contact the center library's Circulation department for more information.

ONLINE STUDENTS who cannot come to campus to obtain a student ID card may request a barcode number from their online instructors.   The barcode number will allow access to the library's online resources.

Your current CCSF photo ID card is the preferred ibrary card. Some faculty or staff may have an older, library-issued card that is still active; in this case, they may be asked for an additional photo ID to verify their identity when borrowing materials. For questions about an old library card, please contact any center library.

Online instructors may obtain barcodes for their online students by contacting Jambi Kahahu in the Technology Mediated Instruction department at 415-239-3886 or

Community Patrons

Community patrons may be issued a CCSF Library Card upon completion and approval of a community patron application.  In order to be eligible for a library card, you must be a resident of San Francisco and provide two forms of proof of residency when applying. These cards are valid for one semester, and must be renewed each semester with a new application. The community patron Library Card provides limited library services only, and is not valid for other CCSF services. Community borrower applications are available at CCSF Library Circulation desks.

Lost Cards

Please report lost cards to the library immediately: this will help limit possible unauthorized use of your card. Replacement student, staff or faculty cards may be obtained at the ID office, Smith Hall Room 118.  Replacement ID cards will have a new barcode, and the old barcode will no longer be valid.  Bring the replacement card to any Circulation desk at a CCSF library to update the library's records.
