Function

The Education Technology Department provides faculty training for the use of technology both in their face-to-face classrooms and in their distance education classes. The Department houses two programs: Technology Mediated Instruction and the Technology Learning Center. The Department is responsible for the following:

  • Funding, training in, and managing the development of all distance learning classes.
  • Funding and managing the delivery and support of all online classes.
  • Supporting faculty teaching online classes using the College's course management software (Insight or Canvas).
  • Training and supporting faculty who enhance a face-to-face class using the College's course management software.
  • Funding, managing, and supporting the Technology Learning Center.
  • Providing consultation about, training in, and support for education technologies relevant to face-to-face and online instruction.
  • Supporting students enrolled in all online classes.
  • Supporting students enrolled in classes that are tech-enhanced by the College's course management software.
  • Funding, managing, and supporting all telecourses.
  • Funding, managing, and supporting an open employee computer lab on the Ocean Campusfor.
  • Funding, managing, and supporting the Education Technology Department’s Satellite Laboratory, an open employee computer lab.
  • Administering and supporting grants in the development and delivery of online classes.
  • Supporting contract education programs in the development and delivery of online classes.

Mission

Consistent with the College’s mission, the Educational Technology Department strives to provide educational programs and services that promote successful learning and student achievement to meet the needs of our distance learning students, students using Insight, Canvas, and other educational technologies in the face-to-face classroom, and our faculty using educational technologies. The department provides support for programs and services leading to transfer to baccalaureate institutions, achievement of Associate Degrees in Arts and Sciences, and the acquisition of certificates and career skills needed for success in the workplace.

The Education Technology Department strives to provide educational programs and services that support the achievement of the following goals: Faculty and students who work with our department should be able to:

• Teach and learn successfully through the distance learning delivery mode.
• Use educational technology, including innovative hardware and software, to enhance teaching and learning.

Consistent with the College’s mission, we provide support for programs and services leading to transfer to baccalaureate institutions, to earning Associate Degrees in Arts and Sciences, and to the acquisition of certificates and career skills needed for success in the workplace.
