Metro Transfer Academy of Science

Metro Transfer Academy of Science Logo

The Metro Transfer Academy of Science is a personalized educational home for students who want to graduate with an associate’s degree, smoothly transfer to university, and become leaders in their communities. This transfer academy serves students interested in pursuing careers in the life or computer sciences. Students will consider how science can be used to respond to the social justice issues impacting their communities.

The academy’s general education course pathway prepares students going into a wide variety of science majors, for example Biology, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Environmental Science, and Geology. All Metro core courses satisfy the transfer requirements for the CSU and UC systems.

Metro students take two or more courses together each semester, building strong ties among peers, faculty and counselors.

Sarah Wongking, MPH

Sarah Wongking, MPH has been working with the Metro program since 2011–teaching several Metro core courses, coordinating Metro academies at both CCSF and SFSU, and co-leading the program’s faculty and curriculum development work. She loves working with Metro because it allows her to work with young leaders who advocate for social justice and are future change agents for their communities. Sarah has conducted research on the intersection of health and education and has a passion for examining what constitutes a healthy learning environment for both students and instructors. Sarah is also dedicated to addressing health disparities faced by the Pacific Islander community.  She serves on the Tri-County Pacific Islander Health Taskforce for the San Francisco Department of Public Health and collaborates with other Pacific Islander health-based initiatives in San Francisco. With a deep commitment to the integration of a health equity lens into the science field, she is excited to continue her work with CCSF and the Metro Transfer Academy of Science.

Below is the course pathway for this academy. Please talk with your coordinator in addition to meeting with your counselor to make sure you are taking your required Metro core course choices.  This pathway may change in response to course availability.
