Introduction to art history from the Classical Greek period to the Modern twentieth century. Art will be discussed in its social context and for formal visual elements. An introductory course in film studies, bringing Hollywood filmmaking into clear focus as an art form, as an economic force, and as a system of representation and communication. This interdisciplinary course introduces the scriptural, symbolic and artistic traditions of the world’s major faiths: Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, Christianity and Islam. A conceptual, almost non-mathematical, introduction to physics with demonstrations. Topics from mechanics, properties of matter, heat, sound, electricity, magnetism, light, nuclear physics, and relativity.
