Writing, Illustrating, & Publishing Children's Books

This workshop focuses on the basics of children's picture book illustrating, writing and publishing. Students will learn the nuts and bolts of picture book making, so when the class ends, you can start your own! In a playful setting, using lots of examples, handouts and a variety of creative exercises, this workshop will help students to uncover new and exciting ideas. Plus, students will get a behind-the-scenes look into the creative work of a professional author. Workshop content covers an overview of the children’s book industry, the structure of picture books, how to create memorable characters, what is voice, and the fundamentals of plot. If you love picture books and are interested in how to make them— come join us! Both beginning writers and illustrators are welcome.

Instructor: Diana Toledano

DIANA TOLEDANO is a Pisces with curly hair, glasses, and a bit of an accent.  Diana (Dee-Anna) grew up in Spain, where she studied Art History and Illustration. Now she lives in San Francisco with her husband, a lazy cat and a crazy kitten. Diana works full time writing and illustrating children’s books. Her books have been published in four languages, five countries and three continents; and her products have been sold in retail stores all over the world.
