Writing, Illustrating, & Publishing Children's Books

This workshop focuses on the basics of children's picture book illustrating, writing and publishing.  Learn how to create memorable characters, how to create a workable plot, and instill in your work the universal elements that will both entertain and engage young audiences.  In a playful setting using a variety of creative exercises, this class will help students to uncover new and exciting ideas.  Class content covers the exploration of various illustration tools, how to make storyboards and book dummies, and how to revise your work.  Students will also dissect numerous picture book titles, learn about the history of the medium, and become knowledgeable about the current industry.  Students will receive personal attention and positive helpful feedback on their work.  If you love picture books and are interested in how to make them— come join us!

Instructor: Diana Toledano

DIANA TOLEDANO is a Pisces with curly hair, glasses, and a bit of an accent.  Diana (Dee-Anna) grew up in Spain, where she studied Art History and Illustration. Now she lives in San Francisco with her husband, a lazy cat and a crazy kitten. Diana works full time writing and illustrating children’s books. Her books have been published in four languages, five countries and three continents; and her products have been sold in retail stores all over the world.
