Collaborating with Nature
Many artists partner with nature in varying ways to create their work. In this 5 week workshop, we will look at the work of many artists who leave a large part of their practice up to chance as they work with nature. Some examples are Jessica Warboys who relinquishes control to the power of the ocean to create her large, abstract paintings, Tomás Saraceno, who creates sculptures by directing spiders as they create their webs, and Andy Goldsworthy, whose permanent and ephemeral works are part of our landscape here in the Bay Area. In this five week class, we will complete three projects in collaboration with nature. We will use natural elements to create mark-making tools in order to create drawings, and we will use sea water, ice and found rocks to complement our painting process.
