2017 Fall Updates

December 18, 2017

Dear Faculty and Chairs,

This is my last update before the Holiday Break!   The CurricUNET administrator has asked me to remind you to SAVE, SAVE, SAVE (and SAVE OFTEN) when writing your SLO reports.

The due date for grades and assessment reports is Tuesday, January 2nd.   As a reminder, Maintenance will occur on December 21, 22, 28, and 29 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. During this time, service may go down for only a few minutes.

Drop-in SLO Coordinator Support

The best way to obtain individual support for your SLO assessment is to stop by a drop-in help lab before the Winter Break starts! SLO Coordinators will be in the TLC (Batmale 313) as well as several other locations to help you with your CRN-level assessments on the following upcoming dates prior to the deadline.  Come see us and bring a friend!

December 19, 1-2:30 pm, TLC Craig Kleinman

December 21, Sheri Miraglia by appointment in S330

January 2,  12 pm - 4 pm, TLC (12-2 Sheri Miraglia, 2-4 Janey Skinner)

If you have questions about CRN-level reporting, but cannot make it to a drop-in help lab, it's possible that one of the options below may help:

1.     Forgot your password? Contact the IT helpdesk (be sure you explain to them that you are asking for a password reset for the CurricUNET Assessment Module).  Remember that the CurricUNET Assessment Module does NOT use the RAM ID.  Your username is your ccsf email address (for example: smiragli@ccsf.edu), and your password is whatever you set to last time. It is static – it doesn’t change.  Hopefully you wrote it down!

2.     CRN Report task guide: (step by step instructions for submitting a CRN-level report):
 CRN-level

3.     Video instructions:
 (6.5 min, 14 MB) Video Only  |  Video with CC

4.     Use this Support Request Form to request help via email. Please be patient. No help guaranteed during holidays, weekends, and breaks

Please feel free to contact an SLO Coordinator if you have any questions about SLO Reporting (or just want to discuss anything SLO related)!  Learn more about us here:  https://www.ccsf.edu/en/about-city-college/slo/resources/slo_coordinators.html.

Dear College Community,

On Wednesday, at 3:45 in MUB 140, the SLO Coordinators in collaboration with the Academic Senate SLO Committee will be presenting the GE Area C and Math Graduation Requirement Assessment Report to the Academic Senate Executive Council.

You can access a brief Executive Summary of the report, including the suggestions resulting from the assessment.  One suggestion that will be discussed is whether or not to disaggregate physical science outcome results from life science outcomes results.

If you are interested in this assessment, we welcome your feedback and participation at the presentation on Wednesday.

Best regards;

Sheri Miraglia (for the SLO Coordination Team) - Craig Kleinman, David Stevenson and Janey Skinner

Dear Faculty and Chairs;

The SLO Committee recently developed new recommendations around aggregate assessment practices.  The committee felt that there was an opportunity to make aggregate assessments more meaningful by using them as a prelude to curriculum development and in particular, SLO and assessment revisions at the course and program level.  The committee brought these recommendations to the Academic Senate Executive Council in early September and a resolution was passed to implement these changes.

What does this mean for you, your courses and programs?

  • An aggregate assessment should be completed sometime in the 18 months prior to submitting course/program outline revisions.
  • The SLO and Curriculum Committees will work together to revise the aggregate assessment report prompts to better align with the goals of updating curriculum.   We hope to have these revisions in place sometime in the spring, and will provide updated support materials when the changes are implemented.
  • In the meantime, thank you for the aggregate assessment work you have done.  Many have found it helpful, but we feel that the new approach will be even more useful.  For now you can hold off on aggregate assessments for any courses that you don't plan to update in the next 18 months.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please feel free to contact any of your friendly SLO Coordinators!

Dear College Community -

The SLO Coordinators often receive awesome suggestions from our colleagues about ways to improve assessment methodology at the college and make our assessment practices more meaningful and valuable.   The best way to influence SLO practice?  Consider joining the Academic Senate SLO Committee!

Some of the things we do include:

College wide assessment including ILO and GELO assessments and recommendations

Brainstorming for professional development workshops themes around SLOs

Review of the Institutional Assessment Plan and assessment timelines

Critique of course and program SLO mappings to ensure quality and consistency

Development of college-wide surveys around SLOs and analysis of survey results

Our first meeting of the 2017-2018 Academic year is Monday, September 11th, in R518

Agenda:

The committee is open to everyone at CCSF.  Please email sheri.miraglia@mail.ccsf.edu if you are interested in joining us, and don't forget to fill out an Academic Senate Committee Application as well.  😃

All College FLEX - Friday, August 18, 2017

Batmale 313 from 1:30-3:30 PM

An Introduction to Student Learning Outcomes at CCSF

This workshop is designed to teach new and existing employees about the SLO process at CCSF. We will review how to identify the SLOs for courses and programs, and how to submit an assessment report using CurricUNET. We will go over the various types of assessment at CCSF: SLOs, SSOs, PLOs, GELOs and ILOs, and explain how assessment at the course level impacts institutional assessments. Need to review the SLO process to make your end-of-semester reporting easier this semester? Join us! Want to find ways to make assessment more meaningful? We will talk about that too! New faculty member? Get your semester off to a great start by planning your assessment with us in this workshop!

Please join us if we can be of assistance and encourage colleagues who may need some extra help this semester to come along as well.

Best regards;

Sheri Miraglia (for the SLO Coordination Team.....more about us in a Welcome Back Update next week!)
