AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES DEPARTMENT(AAS) offers courses in a number of areas to students of City College of San Francisco. These courses enable students to learn and comprehend the ethos, psychology, history, language, art and philosophy of African and/or African-descent people. It provides students with the curricula necessary to complete the instructional requirements of other departments. AAS is committed to providing courses which teach students the skills and proficiencies necessary for successful matriculation and for a successful life. The African American Studies Department is grounded and rooted in the ethos of African American people. This ethos is based on the ancient cardinal virtues of Ma"at. These cardinal virtues have attributes and include the following: TRUTH, JUSTICE, RIGHTEOUSNESS, HARMONY, BALANCE, PROPRIETY AND ORDER.
