Student Grievances and Complaints

STUDENT COMPLAINTS

You may file a complaint against a member of the College if you believe that you have been harmed because a college policy, rule or regulation has been violated, or if you believe that college employees have engaged in other inappropriate conduct. Complaints about discrimination or sexual harassment and challenges to files and grades are handled separately through a different process. Please consult the College Catalog or the Office of the Associate Dean of Student Advocacy, Rights and Responsibilities in Conlan Hall, Room 106, telephone 239-3145 for more information.

GRADE REVIEW

Every student should become familiar with the sections pertaining to grades and grade review in the College Catalog. In particular, students should be aware that time limits apply to grade reviews. If the time limit has passed, students may not be able to ask that a grade be reviewed.

Students should be aware that a faculty member maintains the exclusive right and responsibility to determine grades based upon his/her professional judgment. By law and collective bargaining agreement, the determination of the student's grade by the instructor shall be final, unless mistake, fraud, bad faith, or incompetence can be proven.

FILE REVIEW

Every student has the right to review his or her City College files. Students should become familiar with the sections pertaining to file review in the College Catalog with regard to the process to be followed. The College maintains student files for the purpose of documenting academic progress.
