Student Activities

The Student Activities Office facilitates student empowerment, leadership, and advocacy by strengthening student participation in the life, governance and success of the college. The office provides resources, support and training to eight Associated Student Councils, and more than 60 clubs, student organizations and centers.

The Student Activities Office approves all student and community flyers for posting at CCSF and schedules utilization of RAM Plaza and the Student Union for events. Manuals on "How to Organize at CCSF" and information about services that Student Activities offer are available at the Phelan Campus Student Union, Room 205. Telephone: 239-3212.

The Student Union
The Student Union at Phelan Campus is a place where recognized student organizations meet, socialize, and sponsor events. Individual students and small groups can study, relax, and enjoy coffee, smoothies and sandwiches at City Café. Other campuses are in the process of creating space for students to meet and organize.

The mural, "Song of the Spirit", on the front of the Student Union building was initiated and funded by the Associated Students in collaboration with Precita Eyes, a community organization. The mural was designed and painted by students at City College along with members of Precita Eyes. An informational flyer describing each panel is available to interested clubs, classes, and individuals.

A Housing Board is located in the Student Union, where postings can be found for students who seek rental housing. CCSF does not assume any responsibility for the condition of the rentals listed.

Dr. Betty Shabazz Family Resource Center
The Dr. Betty Shabazz Family Resource Center, located in the Student Union, empowers students with children through information, resources, and support and builds a stronger student parent community on campus. The student-run center provides the following services: supervised children's activities, use of FRC computers, job referrals, information about CalWORKs, peer mentoring, and support groups. Call 239-3109 for more information.

The Associated Students
The Associated Students at Phelan Campus, represented by an elected council of 16 students, serves the CCSF student body by voicing student concerns and funding programs such as:

  • A Book Loan program for low-income students
  • Emergency student loan program
  • Cultural events and activities
  • Student representatives on college-wide shared governance committees
  • Dr. Betty Shabazz Family Resource Center and the Women's Resource Center

The Associated Students also advocates for the student body on issues of campus safety, cultural diversity, social and political awareness, improving access to higher education, and building a sexual harassment-free campus. To contact the Associated Students at Phelan Campus call 239-3108. Information about Associated Student Councils at other campuses can be obtained through the Student Activities Office.

Associated Students Councils
Each campus of City College of San Francisco is encouraged to develop an Associated Student Council made up of students from its campus. This is an opportunity for students to exercise their leadership skills by providing events, programs, and addressing issues that are relevant to each campus. The campus councils are recognized through a set of By-Laws and have a campus advisor who works with the Campus Dean. Each campus council sends representatives to the Associated Students of City College of San Francisco Executive Council. This Council meets to promote student involvement in the District Shared Governance and to raise issues that affect the student body throughout the district. Students who are interested in becoming involved or want further information may contact the Associate Dean of Student activities at 415-239-3212 or their Campus Dean.
