What will this program do for me?
This program will educate you with all the knowledge and skills required to begin practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. Completion will allow you to apply for a license as a Registered Nurse in the State of California and make you eligible to take the licensure examination known as the NCLEX-RN. This license may be reciprocated by other states.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
You will be able to get a job as a Registered Nurse in hospitals, clinics, home health care agencies and private duty.

How much can I earn in this career?
Most new graduate RN's in California make between $50,000 - $70,000 to start which can increase to over $80,000 in a few years. Please refer to Occupational Outlook Handbook for current information on salary and job prospects.

How long will the program take?
3 to 4 years including completion of prerequisite and general education courses.

Where will classes be held?
Classes are held at the Ocean Campus. Clinical practice is done in participating hospitals, clinics, home health agencies and schools throughout San Francisco or nearby Counties.

What time of day are classes offered?
All theory classes are taught during daytime class hours. Clinical practice hours vary.

When do classes start?
Regular City College Semester. You must enroll and be accepted prior to class attendance.

Fill out an enrollment form for the RN Program, which may be obtained in person at the Registered Nursing Office at 50 Phelan Avenue, Cloud Hall Bldg. What are the requirements for receiving a degree?
Upon completion of RN Program courses and graduation from CCSF, you will obtain an A.S. Degree. You will then be eligible to apply for a RN license by examination for the State of California.

How much money can I expect to spend?
You can expect to spend at least $1000 or more the first semester of the program. This will cover the cost of college tuition, required uniform purchase, nursing equipment, skills lab practice kit, health insurance, malpractice insurance and textbooks. You will also be required to have a physical examination, immunizations on record and have successfully completed CPR (BCLS for Health Professionals) the first semester. Succeeding semesters cost between $400-500 for college tuition, textbooks, malpractice insurance and maintaining health screenings. Please refer to Tuition Information for specifics on costs.
