What
will this program do for me?
This certificate program prepares students for entry-level employment
as medical transcriptionists by providing the basic knowledge, understanding,
and skills required to transcribe medical dictation with accuracy, clarity,
and timeliness; ability to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology,
human anatomy and physiology; ability to operate designated word processing,
dictation, and transcription equipment; ability to demonstrate correct
English usage and format medical documents; and ability to apply ethics
in medical transaction practices.
What
kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
You can apply for employment as a medical transcriptionist in private
physicians' offices, insurance companies, hospitals, outpatient clinics,
long-term, psychiatric, radiology and pathology departments, and privately-owned
medical transcription services.
How
much can I earn in this career?
Starting salaries are from $12.00-$15.00 per hour. Please refer to Occupational Outlook Handbook for current information on salary and job prospects.
How
long will the program take?

What
time of day are classes offered?
Fall semester classes are offered during the day and spring semester classes are offered both during the day and evening. Please check the Schedules for Credit Classes for more information on class times and locations.
What
are the requirements for Certification.
All courses within the Medical Transcription Certificate Program must
be completed with a "C" grade or higher as well as a grade point average
of 2.0 or greater. Go to Program Curriculum for specific course requirements.

do I enroll?

Next, take the City College Placement Test and attend the program orientation.
You must then arrange for an appointment with an advisor. You may also
enroll on the first day of classes after meeting with the program
advisor. Bring your placement scores and unofficial transcripts for
any classes you have completed.
