What
will this program do for me?
Prepares students to code medical records according to ICD-9-CM coding classifications and CPT-4 nomenclature systems. Students are trained
to accurately code diagnoses and procedures, utilize reimbursement methods, collect specific data for reimbursement and reporting purposes. Emphasis
on coding of records manually and with encoders. This certificate program
allows graduates to take the Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) Certification
Examination offered by the American Health Information Association (AHIMA).
What
kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Employment opportunities may be found in ambulatory care settings, clinics,
software companies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health
agencies, billing offices, and other health care settings.
How
much can I earn in this career?
Salaries range from $25,000 - $50,000 per year. Please refer to Occupational

job prospects.
How
long will the program take?

time of day are classes offered?

What
are the requirements for certification?
Completion of all courses within the HIT curriculum with a "C" grade
or higher and a grade point average of 2.0. Please refer to Program Curriculum for specific requirement information.
How
do I enroll?
Take the City College Placement Test and attend the program orientation.
You must then arrange for an appointment with an advisor. You may also
enroll on the first day of classes after meeting with the program
advisor. Bring your placement scores and unofficial transcripts for
any classes you have completed
