will this program do for me?
This certificate program prepares students for technical positions in medical record/health information departments, ambulatory, long-term/rehabilitation, psychiatric/drug rehabilitation, home health, hospice, cancer registries, pharmaceutical companies, and other health care settings. Employment opportunities include organizing analyzing, and technically evaluating medical records to establish standards; maintaining and using a variety of indices and storage retrieval systems; controlling the usage and release of health information; abstracting health data and compiling statistics for health care; and coding of records according to specific classification systems.

kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Employment opportunities include filing and retrieval of records, storage
and retention activities, data entry functions, admitting and registration
tasks, filing of transcribed documents, clerical support services for
health information departments, transcription, and other health care
settings.
How
much can I earn in this career?
$12.00 - $15.00 an hour to start. Please refer to Occupational Outlook Handbook for current information on salary and job prospects.
How
long will the program take?
One to two semesters if you attend full time, or two to four semesters

time of day are classes offered?
Fall semester classes are offered during the day and spring semester classes are offered both during the day and evening. Please refer to the Schedules for Credit Classes for more information on class times and locations.

What
are the requirements for certification.
Completion of all courses within the HIT curriculum with a "C" grade
or higher and a grade point average of 2.0. Please refer to Program Curriculum for specific requirement information.

do I enroll?

Next, take the City College Placement Test and attend the program orientation.
You must then arrange for an appointment with an advisor. You may also
enroll on the first day of classes after meeting with the program
advisor. Bring your placement scores and unofficial transcripts for
any classes you have completed.
