 CVT/Echocardiography Technician

What will this program do for me?
This program combines computer technical skills with patient care. If you are interested in health care and technology this may be a good career for you.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Program graduates can work as ECG techs, exercise stress techs and cardiac ultrasound techs.

How much can I earn in this career?
This will vary within each institution and based on duties performed: ECG (only) about $12/hr, Echo Technologist between $18-24/hr. Please refer to the Occupational Outlook Handbook for more information regarding job outlook and salary scales.

How long will the program take?
Students should try to see this as an AA Degree Program and should spend at least one year preparing for it by taking anatomy, physiology, physics and algebra. The CVT program itself takes one full academic year and can be used as a major for your AA Degree.

Where will classes be held?
John Adams Campus, Phelan Campus, and at various Bay Area medical centers for clinical experience.

What time of day are classes offered?
Fall
CVT course: M 9a-12p lab 12-2p
ECHO course: Tu/Th 9a-12p lab 6-9p (1 night a week)
Spring
CVT course: M 6-9p lab 4-6p
ECHO course: Tu/Th 9a-12p 8 hours per week in clinic

When do classes start?
Interviewing for enrollment is in late spring. Courses begin each Fall Semester usually the third week of August.

How do I enroll?
Meet prerequisites, interview in the late spring.

What are the prerequisites?
College level anatomy (C or better)
Highly recommended:
1) computer literacy
2) algebra
3) medical terminology
4) hospital experience (even as a volunteer)
