Cultural Diversity

Learn: what diversity is; what valuing diversity means; why valuing diversity is important; ways values affect choices and behavior; about the barriers to diversity, and to use some tools to manage diversity.

We live in an increasingly multi-cultural society. Accordingly, organizations need to make sure that the composition of their workforce and the kinds of customers that they serve reflect this diversity. However, merely having diverse types of people present does not ensure that they will get along or that they will have a clear understanding of each other’s needs and culture. Open communication is necessary in order to achieve cultural competence in the workplace. In this interactive workshop, learn how to:

• Explore Ways in Which People are Diverse
• Define Diversity
• Identify Primary and Secondary Dimensions of Diversity
• Understand Stereotyping, Prejudice, and Discrimination
• Explore Personal Challenges and Strengths
• Identify Challenges and Opportunities of a Diverse Workplace
• Find Common Ground: How are we alike?
• Surface Assumptions
• Seek to Understand Each Other
• Apply Learning to Everyday Work Life Experiences
