Aging and Long-Term Care (3 or 10 BBS CEUs)

Working with the families of youth in care often means working with grandparents and other elderly relatives, especially as the number of people in the US over 60 continues to grow. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to develop knowledge and skills for working with this population. Explore a comprehensive overview of the pertinent mental and physical health issues often experienced by older adults, how these may affect the involvement of older adults in caring for the foster youth in their lives, and how caregivers of youth in foster care can deal with these issues in their work.

Instructor Max E. Fuentes Fuhrmann, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist with extensive practical experience in the assessment and psychotherapeutic treatment of older adults. Dr. Fuhrmann has administrative experience in helping to initiate inpatient geriatric psychiatric programs at two Southern California hospitals.

Dr. Fuhrmann has taught gerontology and psychology courses at the California State University Northridge for 17 years. His teaching and lecture styles are held in high regard and he is often sought out as a presenter due to his organizational skills, tying the material into the "real world" and encouraging audience participation & humor.
