The migration from GroupWise 6.0 to GroupWise 6.5 was a complete success. The system returned to production by midnight Wednesday as scheduled. The migration included new servers and storage that has enough capacity to properly serve email users today and well into the future.
Now that the GroupWise servers have been migrated to vendor supported hardware and software the next phase of the migration will include updating the GroupWise client software installed on CCSF office computers to version 6.5. If you are not using the web to access GroupWise you are probably using the older GroupWise 6.0 client which looks like a globe icon on your desktop. Client updates will be made to each office computer through the network and will be completely automated. More information concerning the GroupWise client update will follow in the next few weeks. In the meantime you can begin to take advantage of the new features of GroupWise 6.5 with the web client by typing in gww.ccsf.edu in your web browser. This address works for users at CCSF and at any web enabled computer anywhere in the world. Users may notice some duplicate Internet emails in their inbox. This is a result of how email is currently routed at CCSF and the simultaneous operation of the FOG email system in conjunction with GroupWise. ITS apologizes for any inconveniences the duplicate emails may cause.
CCSF will be changing the way email is routed on campus within the next couple of months. The new routing will be more efficient and take advantage of the speed and new features in GroupWise. Users can treat the duplicate emails as they wish and should not be concerned.

RE: College Closure, Groupwise Update, & Ocean Avenue Campus Power Shutdown
Please be reminded that the entire District will be closed from March 25th through April 1, 2005 for Spring Break. Given the closure, the Information Technology Policy Committee (ITPC) recommended that the planned GroupWise upgrade to version 6.5 begin during Spring Break. This means that GroupWise will be unavailable from the evening of Saturday, March 26th through midnight on Wednesday, March 30th. This will affect both the Windows desktop client that many of us use on campus, as well as the web client, which is used when connecting to GroupWise from home.
All email received during this period will be stored for delivery when GroupWise becomes available again. For a preview of new features offered in the GroupWise 6.5 windows and web versions, and new information about the upgrade as it is available, please go to http://www.ccsf.edu/gw.
For those working on the Ocean Avenue Campus, please be reminded that the campus will have no electrical power on March 25th as there is a major scheduled maintenance project taking place on the electrical grid. We urge all employees to NOT visit the campus during this time. As the campus will have no electrical power, I am reminding you to unplug your computers and shut off all of the electrical equipment in your offices before leaving for the break.
