Orientations and Training Spring 2009

Service-Learning / Peer-Mentoring

Service-Learning Orientations

Service-Learning students are required to attend an orientation session or meet individually with their Project Sponsor/Classroom instructor. The OMSL Orientation provides an overview to service-learning and distributes the required paperwork for students to complete.

Students participating in Project SHINE should attend the SHINE Orientation/Training in place of the OMSL Orientation. Please contact the Project SHINE office for more information: (415) 239-3405 or shine@ccsf.edu.

Option 3: Thurs, Feb 19, 2-3 pm SCI 111

  • Introduction to CCSF Service-Learning program
  • Complete necessary forms:
    • Student Information Form
    • Service-Learning Agreement Form
    • Volunteer Form (should be submitted once a placement has been arranged)
    • Contract for working with Youth (signed by instructor and site supervisor)
  • Note Course Instructor’s deadline for submission of forms
 

End of Semester

Final Reflection Reception: Recognition of service, food and acknowledgements

Peer-Mentor Training

New Mentors are required to attend all of the mentor training sessions. There are make-up assignments in the event a mentor cannot attend a session.

    • Page 1

    • Peer--Mentor Inventory From-Appendix
  • Write a brief paragraph reflecting on your answers to the Inventory Form
  • Write a 2 page summary and reflection of pages 1-13, in which you discuss areas that were of most interest to you.
Mentor Roles, responsibilities, and processes: Goal setting with your mentee; negotiating contracts and agreements on what is to be accomplished during the semester, mentoring "do's and don'ts" and CCSF Resources.

LERN 10: Mentors may take the trainings for 1 unit credit by enrolling in LERN 10, Introduction to Tutoring and Mentoring: CRN 35926, Sec. 692 . Class will meet on several Fridays or as arranged. Mentors must be able to attend all of the scheduled meetings to receive the 1 unit of credit. See Chris Francisco in S134 to add. Most of the Mentor Training will be shared with the LAC Tutor Training.
