ESL Tutoring:

Students enrolled in any ESL class may receive individual help from an ESL instructor on any school-related work. A tutoring session is 20 minutes. Tutoring is limited to one session per day, three times per week. Here is how to use this service:

• Log-in: Bring your student ID to the main service counter in the LAC. You will be given a ticket that shows you have logged in.
• Sign-in: Go to the Writing Lab, put your name on the ESL sign-up list, take a seat at the ESL table, and wait for your name to be called.
• Checklist: If you want help with a writing assignment, you must fill out a short checklist (on the ESL table) before meeting with a tutor.
• Lab Credit: If you are enrolled in ESL 150 or ESL 160, you receive 30 minutes of lab credit for each 20-minute tutoring session.

ESL Workshops:

Attendance in these 50-minute “mini classes” is limited to 12 students. There are workshops in all skill areas (grammar, reading, writing, pronunciation, and speaking) for students at all skill levels. The content of Basic Reading Skills, Pronunciation, and Conversation workshops is appropriate for students at ESL levels 120-140. The content of Grammar-Writing and Reading Skills workshops is appropriate for students at ESL levels 140-160. The content of Advanced Grammar-Writing workshops is appropriate for students at ESL levels 160 and 170. Here is the procedure for attending a workshop:

• Workshops start at ten past the hour and fill up fast. Try to get to the LAC five to ten minutes before the hour
• Log-in: Bring your student ID to the main service counter in the LAC. You will be given a ticket that shows you have logged in.
• Go to R222 (all workshops are in R222 except for Saturday workshops, which are in R217)
• Take a number from the bag on the door of R222 to reserve a place in the workshop (the workshop is closed when 12 tickets have been taken).
•Lab Credit: If you are enrolled in ESL 150 and ESL 160, you receive an hour of lab credit for each 50-minute Grammar-Writing and Reading Skills workshop. You must talk to your instructor about receiving credit for Pronunciation and Conversation workshops.
