A grant is money which students do not have to work for or pay. Students with bachelor's degree are not eligible for grants.

Loans are monies which are borrowed now and must be paid back after leaving school. Students with bachelor's degrees may be eligible.

Academic Competitiveness Grants (ACG):  These grants are for full-time, Pell-eligible students who have completed a rigorous high school program of study after January 1, 2005 and maintain a 3.0 grade-point average while in college.  A student must be a U.S. Citizen to qualify, and cannot have attended college before.  The award amounts are $750.00 for first year and $1,300 for second year.

Campus-Based Programs: Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG), Federal Work-Study Program, and Perkins Loans.

  1. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) Grant is awarded at CCSF to students who demonstrate exceptional financial need and will range from $100 to $160 per academic year.

  2. Federal Work-Study Program provides jobs for students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. The program encourages community service work and work related to the student's course of study. Students may contact the Career Development and Placement Center in Science Hall 127 regarding job placement assistance. If the student works off campus, the employer will usually be a private non-profit organization or a public agency, and the work performed must be in the public interest. The amount earned cannot exceed student's total Federal Work-Study award.

  3. Federal Perkins Loan is awarded at CCSF to the neediest students and will range from $200 to $1,000 per academic year. A student may borrow a cumulative total of $20,000 throughout his undergraduate career including a maximum of $8,000 while at City College.

The Federal Perkins loan comes with a 5% interest, to be repaid six to nine months after the student borrower drops below halftime, withdraws, graduate or leaves school. A loan may be cancelled in part or entirely under certain circumstances. The minimum repayment per year is $480 or more depending on the loan amount.

The Student Account Services, located in Bungalow 619, is responsible for collections of the Perkins loans.

The actual amount of your financial aid paid is based on your enrollment status, availability of funds, eligibility for the program, compliance with the school’s Satisfactory Academic Progress policy, change in income or living status, receipt of financial aid at more than one school at a time, etc.  Every time the Financial Aid Office makes changes to your award, you will receive an updated award letter.

To receive aid from these programs, please see the
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS TO RECEIVE FINANCIAL AID section on the Facts About FAFSA.
