Cal Grant 2007-2008 THE MOST COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Cal Grants are "free" cash awards offered by the State of California through the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC).
2. How do I apply for a Cal Grant? To apply for federal and state financial aid, you will need to complete the Free Application for Federal financial Student Aid, or FAFSA before the March 2, 2007 deadline. Whether you apply electronically or on paper, it is free. The California Student Aid Commission will use the information you provide on your FAFSA to determine your eligibility for California Grants. You need to complete only one application each school year. Come to the Financial Aid Office, Information Center, located in Cloud Hall, room #331 (Monday to Friday, (9:00 am - 4:00pm). Once you file a FAFSA by the prescribed deadline, City College of San Francisco will send your grade point average electronically to the California Student Aid Commission.
3. What is the deadline to apply for a Cal Grant? Apply by the March 2, 2007 postmark deadline by submitting your FAFSA to the Federal processor. If you file a FAFSA and list CCSF's school code #012874 on question #86 of the application and completed 24 units at CCSF, your grade point average will be automatically sent to the California Student Aid Commission.

5. What happens if I missed the March 2, 2007 deadline? If you miss the March 2, 2007 deadline you still can apply for a Federal Pell Grant, Federal College Work Study, Federal Supplemental Opportunity Grant, student loans and private grants and scholarships.
Community college students get a second chance, September 4, 2007 to apply for a Cal Grant A or B competitive award. Since the number of awards available in September is limited, it is extremely important to apply by March 2, 2007.
6. Who will send my Grade Point Average to the California Student Aid Commission? If you file a FAFSA by the prescribed deadline(s) and completed 24 units, City College of San Francisco will send GPA data electronically to the California Student Aid Commission.
If you are transferring units from other community colleges or four year colleges/universities, you must request that an official transcript from the community colleges or universities you previously attended be sent to CCSF, Office of Admissions and Records located in Conlan Hall #107. Your official transcripts must be received and you must request the completion of GPA Verification Form by February 28, 2007 for the March 2nd deadline or by August 29, 2007 for the September 4th deadline.
7. How do I know if I am awarded a Cal Grant? If you file a FAFSA and the grade point verification was submitted to the California Student Aid Commission by the March 2, 2007 or the September 4, 2007 deadlines you will receive a Cal Grant notification letter from the California Student Aid Commission. If you do not receive written confirmation within 6 weeks, contact the California Student Aid Commission at (916) 526-7590.
