Backing up and moving Favorites/Bookmarks on your Mac

Internet Explorer

1. On the menu bar, click Window and then click Favorites.
2. With the Favorites window open, on the File Menu, click Export Favorites
3. Choose where to save. You might want to save directly to a disk (Zip, floppy), or the Move This! transfer folder on your desktop. Or both.
4. Click Save. Your favorites are saved to a file. The default name is Favorites.html.
5. Close the Favorites window. You will need this file to load into the browser on your new system.

Netscape

The procedures for saving Netscape’s Bookmarks vary between Versions 4 and 7.

Saving Bookmarks from Netscape 4.7

1. On the menu bar, click Bookmarks and then click Edit Bookmarks.
2. With the Bookmarks window, open, on the menu bar, click the File menu, and choose Save As.
3. In the “Save As" window, choose where you want to save.
   You might want to save directly to a disk (Zip, floppy), or the transfer folder on your desktop. Or both.
4. Name the file: bookmarks.html (don’t forget to add  the .html)
5. Click Save. You will need this file to load into the browser on your new system.

Saving Bookmarks from Netscape 7

1. On the menu bar, click Bookmarks and then click Manage Bookmarks.
2. With the Bookmarks window open, on the menu bar, click Tools and then click Export.
3. In the Export Bookmark file dialog box, choose where you want to save this file. You might want to save directly to a disk (Zip, floppy), or to the Move This! transfer folder on your desktop. Or both.
4. Click Save.

Copying Bookmarks or Favorites into Internet Explorer

If you have saved your Netscape bookmarks (as bookmarks.html) or Internet Explorer Favorites (as favorites.html) to a floppy or zip disk or to a Move This! Folder, you can easily move them to the Internet Explorer 5 browser on your new OS X Mac.

1. Insert the disk on which you saved your IE Favorites (bookmark.htm) or Netscape bookmarks (bookmarks.html or bookmark.htm). If you saved these files to a Move this! folder before the upgrade, they will be in a folder on your new computer.
2. On Internet Explorer’s menu bar, click Window. On the Window menu, click Favorites.
3. With the Favorites window open, click File and then click Import Favorites
4. Find your file. Click to select it.
5. Click Open. The contents of the file are added to your Favorites structure.
