DSPS High Tech CentersThe DSPS operates two High Tech Centers: one on the Ocean Campus and one at the John Adams Campus. Each High Tech Center (HTC) instructs students with disabilities in the use of adaptive computer technology and software, and does outreach to all students on the campus who would benefit from using the center. The primary purpose of the High Tech Center is to support educational access for students with disabilities by teaching computer adaptations and providing instruction in computer skills that can be transferred to other computer labs on campus. The HTC is not intended to be a clerical skills training program. It serves as training for disability-related computer needs. Each High Tech Center has Windows and Macintosh computers, high speed Internet access, scanners, and printers. Available adaptations include speech recognition software, text-to-speech synthesizers, screen reading software, screen magnification software, adapted keyboards, Braille output and other accommodations for students with physical and cognitive disabilities. All ability levels are accepted, from beginning to advanced. The HTC is open-entry, open-exit and non-credit. The HTC assists students in:

Academic Assistance Program (Ocean Campus)The Academic Assistance Program is a drop-in study lab offered through the Ocean Campus DSPS High Tech Center (Batmale Hall 231) in the afternoons and evenings on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday when the Strategies Lab is closed. In the lab students can receive limited individual and small group assistance in Math and English; learn alternative approaches to studying; try out learning strategies that focus on one's learning strengths; as well as study independently in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Open through finals week.
