Course Repetition
If you repeat a course in which you have received a grade of "D" or "F," the repeated grade will be computed into your G.P.A. If the new grade is higher, your overall G.P.A. should improve.
Example:
SUBJECT GRADE History 1 D Repeated Course History 1 C
The "C" grade counts towards the grade point average.
Total units earned: 3 units
Both grades are permanently recorded on your transcript.
You dont earn additional units for repeating a class. Therefore, repeating classes can cost you valuable time and money.
Always check with your counselor to determine if repeating a class is the best strategy for your educational goals.
Questions About Course Repetition
1."Do I have to repeat the course in the semester immediately following the semester in which I got a "D" or "F" grade?"
No, you can repeat the class whenever you want. Of course, the sooner you repeat the class, the more likely you are to remember the information that you originally learned in the class.
2. "Can I repeat as many courses as I want?"
Yes, you can usually repeat courses as often as you want; however, some transfer programs may limit repeats.
However, if you repeat a course more than once because of a "D" or "F" grade, you will need to get course repetition approval from your previous instructor or the Department Chair or the Department faculty advisor.
You cannot repeat a class and receive course repetition credit after you have received an Associates degree.
An "Incomplete" can not be repeated unless the "Incomplete" turns into a "D" or "F" grade.
3. "Can I repeat courses with a grade of "C" or higher?"
No, unless you have unique circumstances and the Associate Dean of Students (Conlan, 106) grants you permission to repeat the course.
4."When I repeat a course, is the more recent grade automatically recorded on my transcript or do I have to request it?"
Yes, it should be automatically recorded, but it is always good idea to double check your transcript to make sure the correction was made.
