Academic Renewal

Academic Renewal allows you to exclude up to 24 units of "D’s," "F’s" and "NC’s" from your G.P.A. calculation without even having to repeat the coursework!

Academic Renewal is like a "Forgiveness Policy!"

To be eligible for Academic Renewal, you must have completed one of the two following options since you received the "D" or "F" grade you wish to exclude:

1. Complete a minimum of 24 units with a 2.0 G.P.A. or higher

OR

2. Complete a minimum of 12 units with a 3.0 G.P.A.or higher

These units may include coursework completed at another college after the "D"Ê or "F" grade was received at CCSF.If you wish to use course work from another college(s) to qualify for Academic Renewal, you must have official transcripts on file in the CCSF Admissions and Records office (Conlan, 107).

You must wait two years after your last "D" or "F" grade before you can apply for Academic Renewal in the Admissions and Records Office (Conlan Hall, Room 107).

You may petition to waive the two year waiting period requirement by requesting the necessary paper work from the Associate Dean of Students (Conlan, 106).

You can only apply for Academic Renewal once and you cannot apply after receiving an A.A./A.S. degree at CCSF.

Before Academic Renewal

Student completes the Academic Renewal requirements and applies for Academic Renewal in Admissions and Records, Phelan-E107.

After Academic Renewal

Note that the grade point average improved but the student lost three units that were excluded.

Academic Renewal Check List

1. ___After receiving the "D" or "F" grade I wish to exclude, I’ve completed either:

a minimum of 24 units (degree applicable) with a 2.0. G.P.A. or higher

or

a minimum of 12 units (degree applicable) with a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher

2. ___I’ve completed the following requirements:

I have waited a minimum of 2 years since my last "D" or "F" or received a waiver from the Associate Dean of Students (Science, 193).

I have never been granted Academic Renewal at CCSF before.

I have not received an A.A./A.S. at CCSF.

I have submitted official transcripts to Admission and Records (Phelan-E107) from prior colleges if I need them to prove that I’ve improved my grades since receiving the "D" or "F" grade at CCSF that I wish to exclude.

3. ___I’ve applied for Academic Renewal at the Admissions and Record office in Conlan Hall, Room 107.
