What will this program do for me?
This program is designed to provide the educational requirements for entry level jobs as an Engineering Assistant in an engineering design office.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Engineers develop the skill to design functional products and systems based upon a foundation formed from engineering, physical science, and mathematics course work. They pursue rewarding careers in a professional environment with good employment and advancement opportunities. City College of San Francisco offers courses leading to the Associate of Science Degree and Major in Engineering. Graduates generally transfer to four-year institutions as juniors where they can major in computer, electrical, electronics, mechanical, civil, industrial, chemical, manufacturing or other engineering. Others seek employment as an engineering assistant working in consulting offices preparing design documents, CAD work and other related duties.

How much can I earn in this career?
Salaries should be comparable to Engineering Technicians with a national median of approximately $40,000. Bay Area salaries may be higher.  Please refer to the Occupational Outlook Handbook for more information regarding job prospects and salary scales.

What are the prerequisites?
Math through trigonometry, high school physics (1 year) and high school chemistry (1 year). City College offers all the equivalent course work for these prerequisites.

How long will the program take?
Theoretically two years if fully prepared and you are a full time student taking a full load. Some summer school course work would likely be required. Most students take longer because of lack of prerequisites courses and/or taking less than a full time load.  To find out more about course requirements for the program, please refer to the Program Curriculum.

Where will classes be held?
