Electronic Engineering Technology

What will this program do for me?
The program is designed to provided the educational requirements for entry level jobs as an Electronic Technician.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Electronic engineering technicians help to design, develop, test, and manufacture electrical and electronic equipment such as communication equipment, radar, industrial and medical measuring or control devices, navigational equipment, and computers. They may work in product evaluation and testing, using measuring and diagnostic devices to adjust, test, and repair equipment. Electronic engineering technology also is applied to a wide variety of systems such as communication and process controls.

How much can I earn in this career?
The 2002 median nation wide salary for Electronic Engineering Technician was $42,950. Bay Area salaries may be higher. Please refer to the Occupational Outlook Handbook for more information regarding job prospects and salary scales.

What are the prerequisites?
Math through trigonometry and high school physics. City College offers all the equivalent course work for these prerequisites. Consult with the program advisor.

How long will the program take?
Theoretically two years if fully prepared and you are a full time student taking a full load. Some summer school course work would likely be required. Most students take longer because of lack of prerequisites courses and/or taking less than a full time load. Please refer to Program Curriculum for more information on course requirements.

What time of day are classes offered?
Most of the technical courses are offered at night and all the other courses are offered both day and evening.  Please refer to the Schedules for Credit Classes for more information on class times and locations.

How do I enroll?
You may call the Department at (415) 239-3505, or submit an application to the Office of Admissions and Records, Ocean Campus, Room E-107 in Conlan Hall, (415) 239-3285. There are no specific enrollment requirements for the program. You just need to enroll in the specific courses. All engineering students should enroll in ENGN 10A, Introduction to Engineering: The Profession. Consult the program advisor for details.
