  Small Business (Small Business Institute)

What will this program do for me?
The program is designed to provide complete basic knowledge to the student interested in owning and operating his or her own small business. Whatever your business plan, whether it be the one-person, home-based enterprise or a larger business endeavor, classes at the Small Business Institute are designed to meet your needs. Each course is "free-standing" and designed to provide complete basic knowledge to the student interested in that particular business field.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
The classes are designed specifically for students intending to establish or are already running their own small businesses.

How much can I earn in this career?
This will depend entirely on what kind of business you intend to operate. For current information regarding salary and job prospects, please refer to the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

How long will the program take?
If you elect to receive the Small Business Certificate you will need to attend 72 hours of instruction. However, each course is "free-standing" and you may therefore choose to attend only those courses of particular interest to you.

What time of day are classes offered?
All of the classes are offered in the evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Please refer to the Schedules for Noncredit Classes for more information on class locations and times.

When do classes start?
Classes begin on various dates throughout the Fall and Spring semesters. Please refer to the Schedules for Noncredit Classes for more information on class locations and times.

What are the requirements for certification?
Students will receive the Small Business Certificate after they have met the requirements and attended 72 hours of instruction. For more information on requirements, please refer to the Program Curriculum.

How much money can I expect to spend?
All noncredit classes are free of charge and all necessary materials are provided by the instructors. The 3-unit course entitled Ownership and Operation of a Small Business costs $33.00.
