What will this program do for me?
The Paralegal/Legal Studies Program will prepare you for work as a paralegal. You will assist attorneys in government, corporations, and private law offices.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
Areas of employment for paralegals include accident/personal injury, banking, bankruptcy, civil rights, corporate, criminal, entertainment and sports, environmental, estate and probate, family, government, immigration, insurance defense, intellectual property, labor, malpractice, marine, real estate, and more.

How much can I earn in this career?
Entry-level paralegals with no experience earn about $25,000 per year. Experienced paralegals with degrees earn as much as $70,000 annually. Most experienced paralegals earn an average of between $35,000 and $40,000 annually in the San Francisco Bay Area. How long will the program take?
Completing either a degree or a certificate will take at least two years. Please refer to the Paralegal Studies Program for more information regarding program requirements.

Where will classes be held?
Each paralegal class is offered at either 50 Phelan Avenue or at 800 Mission Street. Some required paralegal classes are offered at both 50 Phelan Avenue and 800 Mission Street simultaneously. Please refer to the Schedule for Credit Classes for more information on class locations and times.

When do classes start?
Each Fall and Spring City College Semester. Please refer to the Schedule for Credit Classes for more information on registration dates, class times, and locations.

How do I enroll?
If you are a new student, please fill out an application with the Admissions Office at 50 Phelan Avenue, 107 Conlan Hall. If you are working toward a degree, schedule placement examinations in English and Math when you file your application. Refer to the Schedule for Credit Classes and the Catalog. Because each semester is built on the preceding semester, check the semester sequence in the catalog and follow that sequence. If necessary, arrange to meet with Dora Dye, program coordinator, at either ddye@ccsf.edu or at (415) 239-3508.

What time of day are classes offered?
Courses for the Paralegal/Legal Studies Program are offered in the evenings, on Saturday mornings, and during the day when possible. For a current listing of class times, please refer to the Schedule for Credit Classes.

What are the requirements for the certificate program?
To qualify for the certificate program, you must already hold a degree OR have completed 30 units of general education or law-related courses with a 2.00 grade point average or higher at an accredited, post-secondary institution OR will complete the 30 units concurrently with this program. You are required to provide an official transcript of all courses completed at another college. To earn the certificate, you must complete each course in the Paralegal/Legal Studies Program with a letter grade of "C" or higher. What are the requirements for the degree program?
When you apply for admission to the College, schedule placement tests in Math and English. If you do not achieve a satisfactory score on the English Placement Exam, we highly recommend that you complete BSEN 70 with a grade of "C" or higher before enrolling in Paralegal/Legal Studies courses. Upon satisfying the degree course requirements with an average grade of "C" (a 2.00 grade-point average) or higher, you will receive an Associate of Arts Degree, an Award of Achievement, and the Certificate.
