This program offers qualified students training as laboratory technicians in the rapidly expanding job market of the biotechnology industry.

What kind of job can I get once I complete the program?
The curriculum is designed to give a strong chemistry and molecular biology foundation for entry-level employment in the areas of manufacturing, quality control, quality assurance, and research and development.

How much can I earn in this career?
Entry-level biotechnology technicians earn salaries of $12-$15 per hour plus benefits. Please refer to Occupational Outlook Handbook for current information on salary and job prospects.

How long will the program take?
The program combines two years of study at City College with high school preparatory courses to give students laboratory, computer, and communications skills identified by industry scientists as necessary for employment.

Admission to the program is contingent on completion of high school or equivalents of the following:

  • One year Biology with lab
  • One year Physics or Principles of Technology with lab
  • One year Chemistry with lab
  • One year Algebra
