    CAREER FAIRS
Career Fairs can be a wealth of information for both career explorers and job seekers. If you missed the CCSF 10th annual Career Information Fair on 4/21/04, be aware of other Career Fairs going on throughout the SF Bay area. Tips for getting the most out of the Career Fair:

Don't just cruise around the tables or booths with your friends. Interact with the recruiters or employers on your own.Come early before the fair is winding down and some recruiters and employers have already left Get the business cards from the recruiters or employers that you meet. Think about writing a follow-up note to those organizations you are most interested in. Jot down notes about the contacts that you make. Pick up brochures and other materials available to you on the tables or in booths. Get a better sense of your career options and the world of work. Use the career fair to practice talking about your skills and interests.

    CAREER BUILDING AND SELF MANAGEMENT**
Career planning is identifying what you're good at; how your skills, talents and interests translate into meaningful work. But in today's dynamic world of work this planning process is also evolving and changing. We are now involved in career building to emphasize healthy, self reliant lives with the ability to cope in the rapidly changing labor markets and to maintain a healthy balance between our work and life roles. There are five principles underlying career building and it is important to review them:

    1. Change is constantóAdaptability is an important skill to carry into the future.
    2. Learning is ongoingóOpportunities to learn are everywhere and we must learn to recognize them and make learning a lifelong experience.
    3. Focus on the journeyóPay attention to your lifeís journey with all the pitfalls, sidetracks, opportunities, and highways to new destinations.
    4. Follow your heartóNever be afraid to dream.
    5. Access your alliesóThis journey is not to be taken alone; look and make allies along the way to give you the support and strength when you need it.

Remember what Darwin said: "Ösurvival goes to those most responsive to change."

THINKING ABOUT INTERNING OR VOLUNTEERING THIS SUMMER?
Internships are a great way for students to get real work experience and training. There are all kinds of internships and all provide invaluable feedback and experience that you can use on your resume. Interning can also help you decide whether this work is in fact the career you want. You might also find paid internships.

Getting an internship early in your college career is probably better than later on, but it's never too late. Check out the following websites to see if there is a fit for you.
