The final exhibition scrimmage for the City College men's varisty soccer team was held Friday, August 24, against Santa Rosa Junior College.

The scrimmage provided the coaches with an opportunity to evaluate their team as they prepare to set their roster for the upcoming season.

"[The scrimmage] was about seeing how the players respond to game-day pressure, as many of the players on the team are young," coach Adam Lucarelli said.

"It was also important for many of the players as they are trying to fine tune their skills before the start of the season."

For Lucarelli, this scrimmage wasn't about who wins or loses, but for the players to show their coaches if they are ready for onfield situations.

Many of the players were able to show the coaches their talents and hoped to make an impression before the season opener.

"The team being young can be a weakness because you have to teach the players constantly," Lucarelli said.

"The strength of the team is also that there are many experience players on the squad, so hopefully that can help set an example to the new players."

Expectations are high for the season: their goals are the conference championship and state Final Four.

"There is no telling what the outcome might be, but hopefully everything will gel and the season will be a success," Lucarelli said.
