CCSF beats Merced in home opener
CCSF Webwriter, Alicia Chow, November 25, 2007.
With a home court advantage, the Girls’ Basketball team won the game against Merced with a big lead of 74-58 on Saturday.
It was unbelievable on how well their communication and teamwork was on the court. It was no surprise that they sent Merced home with yet another loss to add to their list.
Because of the amazing defense by City, Merced seemed confused and uncertain as to where to even bounce the ball. Not to mention the many rebounds that City had throughout the entire game.
During the first-half, Merced had the lead, but City kept at it and stayed right next to them on the scoreboard.
Until, Georgia Onyemem came in with a 3-pointer and put the Rams in the lead. After that, there was no turning back. Merced just couldn’t keep up.
Eventually, Merced got anxious and started to get aggressive, making numerous mistakes on the court, giving City the opportunity to stack up on more easy points.
During the second-half, City just could not be contained. Enough said.
Except, maybe the blocked shot by Kim Hom. Which, to Merced’s great dismay, allowed City the rebound to score yet another two points.
It looks like the Girls’ team is off to a good start for the new season.
Just like the new season there are also some new players on this year’s Girls’ Basketball team, “Great athleticism…better this year”, stated head coach Jamie Wong when talking about the new players.
She went on to say, “I’m really looking forward to our season.”
The Girls’ Basketball team showed great effort out there on the court, and it paid off. I’m sure that the next pay day will be just as rich.
City got 20 points and 6 assists from Georgia Onyemem, 19 points and 11 rebounds from Monique Calvello and 11 points and 6 assists from Senoj Jones.
