San Francisco Chronicle, Michelle Smith, February 26, 2009.

City College of San Francisco heads into the state tournament as the No. 1 seed in Northern California after a 31-2 season that included 22 straight wins to open the schedule. That was the best start in school history.

Expectations are high, but the Rams have been there before. They were a highly seeded team last year only to make a first-round exit.

"That was a big disappointment and our sophomores have made that a big part of their motivation," said CCSF head coach Jamie Wong.

The Rams are led by freshman guard Jazmin Holmes, an all-state selection, sophomore center Courtney Buster, named second-team all-state, and freshman Brittney Allen, all San Francisco high school grads.

The Rams have a first-round bye and will play Saturday at home at 5:30 p.m. against Sacramento City College, which blew out College of San Mateo 83-48 Wednesday.
